FRED

FRED: Star of the Broadway stage and yummy birthday cakes.

Check out Fred with Bernadette Peters below!

wo years ago, thanks to a friend at the Humane Society of New York, Chris and his wife hooked up with famed Broadway animal trainer Bill Berloni and adopted Fred.

Chris Grabenstein Fred, who was abandoned as a puppy and discovered running around in the Bronx was placed on Death Row in a kill shelter. Fortunately, he was soon rescued by Bill and trained to star in CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG on Broadway. (All of Mr. Berloni's animal stars are rescues, including all the Sandies in ANNIE). When CHITTY closed, FRED moved up to Connecticut and lived with the trainer's 15 other dogs (including several Sandy's from ANNIE road companies, a couple Totos, and the Chihuahuas currently starring in the new Broadway musical LEGALLY BLONDE).

Now FRED lives in Manhattan (with three cats, two humans). Four days a week, Fred runs around Central Park with Chris and has come up with several ideas for new books.

To see a video of Fred in action on Broadway in the "Toot Sweet" number from CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG and to learn more about Bill Berloni, the animal trainer who first rescued him, click here to go to a CBS News "48 Hours" Story.

Chris's book WHACK A MOLE is dedicated to Fred and his first dog, the late Buster—"One man's best four-legged writing partners."

FRED, by the way, has his own book coming out next summer: Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars by William Berloni and James Hanrahan. Check it out here.

Lots more Fred pics below but first a little about the Felines!
